Our Motives

We’ve all watched this scene in the movie where the nervous teenage boy walks up to the front door of his dates house to pick her up for prom. The parents open the door and the Dad sits the sweating teenager down and asks him “Why do you want to date my daughter?”. For some of us this scene may actually imitate real life. The Dad is not checking his background or grilling him, he’s just asking “What are your motives?”

Our motives are funny because if we leave them completely unchecked, we find ourselves doing things for the wrong reason and with the wrong mindset. So today the question is, what are your motives when you are seeking God?

Interview: A Love Not Lost

In June we got to catch up with the guys from A Love Not Lost when they came out to Columbus for the eight annual Summer Sideshow. With an alligator head from Louisiana and 6 guys huddled around a microphone in an RV, we got to talk about their new music, the bands latest tour and a performance you can only see when they’re on the road.

Collision Podcast: We wanted to talk to you guys about the Tower EP you all released just this past May. How’s it done so far and what can people expect when they download it?

Nathan: It’s done really good so far. The connection that we’ve had with the crowd through, you know, the way we present it live has been even than the previous EP. Definitely just because we went for a more mature sound and a more collective sound; I guess, as far as what they can expect when they download it is just really diverse hard rock. Like very in your face but also very real of the overall purpose of the EP of what we’re trying to come across which is just that God died for your sins and no matter what comes in your way that He’s bigger than anything you’ve got going on. So, it’s definitely been awesome, like the response we’ve got from our crowd and from our fans, for me, it surpassed what I expected honestly.

Belief

I don’t believe what I SAY; I believe what I DO.

I SAY that looks don’t matter to me.

But, I DO not leave the house without clean and ironed clothing.  I cut my hair off because I am embarrassed by my thinning hair.  I have a closet filled with clothes and shoes and a medicine cabinet stocked with creams and salves to cover my mistakes so I can look better.

I SAY that Jesus is the most important relationship to me.

But, I really DO not introduce him to that many people (unless they happen to be around me between 9AM and 12PM on a Sunday morning.)

I SAY that helping other people is important to Jesus.

I DO help people… as long as they seem nice and ask for help I am able to give at a time of my convenience.

I SAY that anybody can change.

I BELIEVE I can change.

I AM changing.

What do you believe?

Collision Video Podcast

In June a team of Collision students and leaders spent a week in the city of New Orleans. We worked with All Nations Fellowship to restore the sanctuary that was ravaged by hurricane Katrina. We wanted to document this trip for the awesome people who donated to the trip, the students who could not go, and to get the story of All Nations to a new audience.

The following is our first attempt at a video podcast. Please take a minute and hear the story of All Nations Fellowship and the work that is happening in New Orleans. You can watch the YouTube version below or download the show from iTunes.

Review: The Medicine

The Medicine by John Mark McMillanYou may not know the name John Mark McMillan, but chances are that you know the song “How He Loves” which has become a staple in modern worship. He wrote this song one morning as response to the death of a very close friend of his. The incredible thing about John’s writing is that his passion comes through in every song.

The Medicine is the latest release from John and it comes packed with something for everyone. From rock to worship to soul, this album shows that creativity is still alive and well with musicians in 2010.

Fourth of July

This weekend is a time that most of America eats too much and we get to see amazing fireworks displays in the sky. The Fourth of July has always seemed like a time when we as Americans have come together to have fun and enjoy the freedom that we’ve been given. Over the years, many have fought and died for the freedom that we take advantage of on a daily basis.

Do we deserve this freedom? The simple answer is no. Our country has been a symbol of freedom for the entire world even through the toughest of times. America is a place that people across the world want to call home. We are as deserving of this freedom as we are deserving of Christ’s death for us.

This weekend, let’s choose to celebrate the Fourth of July with a thankful heart. We may not be able to explain why God has blessed our nation over the years, but we know that God has a purpose for America. Celebrate this weekend the same way we celebrate our gift of salvation, humbled and thankful. Feel free to post something inspiring for the Fourth of July below and have a safe holiday weekend!

Past-Present-Future

We have this incredible ability to bring things left in the past into our daily lives. It can be our disappointment in the way that we acted, it can be a past relationship that was hurtful, or the way life is going. For some reason we seem to drag that part of our life into the present and it becomes something that consumes us. We constantly focus on something that can’t be changed.

In that same way, some of us are completely consumed with the future. Some times we look at it with excitement and some times with worry. We are so bothered by the unknown at times that we take on stress that we were never meant to handle. Matthew 6:34 says, “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

Slip-N-Slide and cookout

Nothing screams summer like barrelling down a giant Slip-N-Slide into a man made pond! This Saturday we’re doing our second annual Slip-N-Slide and cookout with Chi Alpha and North Highland. Collision is building the largest slide we can for your summer enjoyment.

This year we’re also introducing a contest you can’t miss. The “Floatag” Competition is a lot like Red Bull’s Flutag event. A single person or team will build a raft to slide down the Slip-N-Slide. You’ll be judged on creativity, distance traveled and there’s bonus points for getting air! You can download the entry form by clicking here. (all the rules are on the entry form)

If you are involved with Collision, entry to this event is a 2-liter drink. We’ll be on the hill in front of North Highland off Moon Road starting at 4 p.m. The Floatag Competition starts at 7 p.m. and we’ll be wrapping up at 8 p.m.

Bring a lawn chair or blanket and be ready for a great time! (Check out last years fun in our Collision Photo Gallery)
